Acknowledgement of country

Batchelor Institute would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sovereign people of the lands on which our campuses are located. As we share our knowledge, teaching and learning and engage in research practices within this Institution and/or conduct business with a variety of external agencies and organisations, we must always pay respect to the sovereign status of our hosts. May their Ancestors always be remembered and honoured, their Elders listened to and respected, all members treated with dignity and fairness — in the present and well into the future.

We also acknowledge and pay respect to the knowledge embedded forever with our hosts, custodianship of country and the binding relationship they have with the land. Batchelor Institute extends this acknowledgment and expression of respect to all sovereign custodians — past, present and emerging. By expressing Acknowledgement of Country we encourage all to extend and practice respect to all First Nations people wherever their lands are located.

Batchelor Institute Celebrates Finalist Recognition at 2024 NT Training Awards

We are excited to share some fantastic news from the recent NT Training Awards! Batchelor Institute has once again been recognised for its exceptional contributions to vocational education and training (VET). We have been named finalists in the prestigious Large Training Provider of the Year category, a significant milestone as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. This recognition follows our impressive "three-peat" win in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and we are now in the running to achieve a fourth consecutive win.

Mike Keating, our Director of VET Business Operations, and Patrick McKenzie, a finalist in the VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year category, had a wonderful time representing us at the finalist function. Mike expressed his gratitude to our dedicated staff: "This nomination is very much a shared honour amongst the entire team. Batchelor is a large and complicated operation with many moving parts, and this recognition underscores the hard work and commitment of everyone involved."

Patrick McKenzie, who has been an invaluable part of Batchelor Institute for many years, was also thrilled to be recognised: "As a First Nations Australian I am deeply committed to education that empowers our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, I'm truly grateful to be named a finalist for VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year," Patrick said. "This recognition reflects the hard work of our students and the supportive community we've built at Batchelor Institute. It's about all of us working together to strengthen our people through learning."

We look forward to finding out the results at the Gala Dinner and Awards Night on the 31st of August in Darwin. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our achievements and continue to highlight the exceptional work done by our team.
