Acknowledgement of country

Batchelor Institute would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sovereign people of the lands on which our campuses are located. As we share our knowledge, teaching and learning and engage in research practices within this Institution and/or conduct business with a variety of external agencies and organisations, we must always pay respect to the sovereign status of our hosts. May their Ancestors always be remembered and honoured, their Elders listened to and respected, all members treated with dignity and fairness — in the present and well into the future.

We also acknowledge and pay respect to the knowledge embedded forever with our hosts, custodianship of country and the binding relationship they have with the land. Batchelor Institute extends this acknowledgment and expression of respect to all sovereign custodians — past, present and emerging. By expressing Acknowledgement of Country we encourage all to extend and practice respect to all First Nations people wherever their lands are located.

Batchelor Institute Finalists Again in 2024 NT Training Awards
3 minute read

Batchelor Institute, Australia's premier First Nations tertiary education provider, has once again been recognised for its exceptional contributions to vocational education and training (VET). The Institute has been named a finalist in the prestigious Large Training Provider of the Year category at the 2024 NT Training Awards, continuing its legacy of excellence.

This recognition marks a significant milestone for Batchelor Institute, having secured this category for three consecutive years—2021, 2022, and 2023. Winning this award for a fourth consecutive year would be an extraordinary achievement, especially as the Institute celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Mike Keating, Director of VET Business Operations, expressed his gratitude to the dedicated staff: "This nomination is very much a shared honour amongst the entire team. Batchelor is a large and complicated operation with many moving parts, and this recognition underscores the hard work and commitment of everyone involved."

Patrick McKenzie: Finalist for VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year

Patrick McKenzie, a distinguished VET teacher and trainer at Batchelor Institute, has been named a finalist in the VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year category. Patrick's dedication to empowering students and his innovative teaching methods have earned him this well-deserved recognition. His nomination highlights the exceptional calibre of educators at Batchelor Institute and their commitment to student success.

"As a First Nations Australian I am deeply committed to education that empowers our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, I'm truly grateful to be named a finalist for VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year," Patrick said. "This recognition reflects the hard work of our students and the supportive community we've built at Batchelor Institute. It's about all of us working together to strengthen our people through learning."

Upcoming Events

The judging for individual and business categories will occur on 8th July, followed by a finalist function. The grand event, the Gala Dinner and Awards Night, is scheduled for 31st August in Darwin.

The winners of the NT Training Awards will represent the Northern Territory at the National 2024 Australian Training Awards gala event, held in Canberra on 6th December. Batchelor Institute is hopeful that 2024 will be its year to shine on the national stage.
