Batchelor Institute continues to support remote and First Nations communities by delivering education directly to where it’s needed. For Angelina, from Aputula, the opportunity to study a Certificate II in Community Services without leaving her community has made a significant impact. She sees the value in having educational opportunities that respect local culture and allow people to learn and grow at home.
“It’s really good that Batchelor comes out to the community and delivers these courses. A lot of our mob don’t want to leave, and it’s important we have the chance to study here,” says Angelina.
Studying within her community allows Angelina to stay connected to her people while gaining skills that help her contribute to making Aputula a better place for everyone. Her motivation is simple: to build a stronger, more peaceful, and more connected community. Through her studies in community services, she’s learning how to respect and honour the diversity within her local area, all while focusing on fostering a sense of belonging and unity.
Angelina highlights that education, delivered within the context of her cultural and community values, plays an essential role in making her community a better place to live. "Respecting diversity is very important in our communities. It makes a peaceful, happy community," she explains.
At Batchelor Institute, our Both-Ways learning philosophy supports students like Angelina by blending traditional knowledge with Western education, ensuring that the skills gained are relevant to their communities’ unique needs. Whether it’s understanding community services, communication skills, or the values that hold a community together, the education students receive at Batchelor is always connected to real-world outcomes.
