A beautiful new illustrated poem about the homecoming of stolen generation children was launched on Thursday December 15th by Batchelor Press. The Red Dress Woman was written by Goori woman Gloria Daylight Corliss and illustrated by Western Australian Indigenous artist Patsy Mudgedell.
The book details the return home of brothers and sisters to their home country and the reconnection of family and culture.
Gloria Daylight Corliss was born in Brisbane Women’s Hospital, the second eldest of the seven daughters of Jack and Edith Daylight. Her father is a Barunggam and Wakka Wakka man of south west Queensland and her mother is the only daughter of Annie [Ninthali], a Garrwa Waanyi women from Robinson River. Gloria is a Batchelor Institute graduate and an award-winning author.
Patsy Mudgedell is a visual artist who enjoys working with watercolour to create bright, vibrant paintings. She was born at Ruby Plains Station in the Kimberley region of Western Australia (WA) and currently resides in Wirrimanu (Balgo Hills), WA. Patsy is currently working towards her certificate in Visual Arts with Batchelor Institute.
