
Batchelor Institute’s Research Office provides stewardship and strategic leadership to all aspects of research management at the Institute.
The Office has an oversight responsibility for evaluation, reporting, and support for all areas of research, and manages internal reporting as well as reporting to our partners and government.
The Research Office works to maintain and build research culture and activity at the Institute. It focuses on providing research assistance and professional development opportunities to current staff, overseeing the administration and operation of research projects and partnerships, and providing support to the Graduate School.
The role of the Committee is to advise the Academic Board on research policies, strategies, initiatives and innovation that promote and support the research and research training directions of the Institute. The Committee oversees the research activity of the Institute in line with the Institute’s Research Plan and the Institute Strategic Plan. This includes provisions for the development of research policy and strategies, management of internal ethics processes, the promotion of research initiatives and programs, the monitoring and reporting on research output, and oversight of the performance and processes supporting higher degree by research candidates.
The aim of the Research Committee is to support the development of a strong research culture, foster excellence in research and build research capability. The term of appointment for members of the Research Committee is two years.

- Elder Academic
- A Senior Researcher of the Institute,
- Director of Graduate School
- Student Advocate-Candidate Liaison and Engagement Officer (or nominee)
- Manager of Library and Information Services (or nominee),
- Director Student Experience
The Chief Executive Officer may attend any committee meetings within the institute.

The role of the Committee is to provide advocacy, additional support, guidance and, on “low risk” applications approval for Institute researchers and Higher Degree by Research candidates.

There are 5 options for students lodging ethics applications:
1. If the Student has a relationship with another Institution they could go through their Ethics Committee.
2. If the Student’s Supervisor has a relationship with another Institution they could go through their Ethics Committee.
3. The students could redesign their project to be low risk and apply through Batchelor Institute Ethics Advisory Committee.
4. The student could submit their ethics application to NT HRECs.
5. Otherwise, the student can lodge their application with AIATSIS.

Batchelor Institute has a tradition of partnering with distinguished and talented researchers in the Indigenous research space. Adjunct researchers and associates may work in another institution, in Australia or overseas, for service providers, in-community or for Government-funded or private research organisations. Adjunct researchers may work as a private research consultant or be semi-retired.
